Rediscover football magic with StreamR Splash
Every two years, the world inches closer together. Fan fests and public viewings, flags painted on the skin, sports bars with finger food and beer, joint screaming at the TV in the living room, tears of joy and overwhelming disappointment in the stadium and, of course, the heartfelt embraces when your own or your favourite national team is in the lead, and the referee finally blows the whistle.
Millions were looking forward to the matches; the dates were set. And then UEFA made it official: The Euro Cup 2020 is cancelled! The hearts of football fans everywhere are broken, and our beloved stadium atmosphere seems a whole world away. But the curtain hasn’t dropped yet. Football and emotions take place in memories, too.
Providing comfort to people in times like these is important to us. Football is and always has been an everyday thing in our society and brings together people from all walks of life. That’s why, even this year, we shouldn’t be entirely without it. After all, who doesn’t remember the “Endless Summer” 2012 or Zara Larsson and David Guetta singing of a united Europe in 2016? And whenever “Samba de Janeiro” comes on, doesn’t it just scream football extravaganza?
Pure refuses to let this year’s championship pass without further ado. The final was scheduled for today, and we want to at least experience it in our own way. Let us relive some of the most memorable moments in Euro and World Cup history together. Our StreamR Splash with its waterproof design and 20 hours of battery life makes this possible anywhere and anytime – at a picnic as much as on the bicycle or in the water. Check out our favourite moments from the many decades of competitive national football and listen to the songs that accompanied them:
Our #1 Emotional Moment
2008: The previous year, FC Sevilla’s Antonio Puerta succumbed to complications from cardiac arrest. Ten months later, Spain wins the Euro Cup, and Sergio Ramos pays tribute to his former colleague with a picture of the young player on his shirt, captioned “Siempre con cosostos” (“Always with us”).
The anthem: Can You Hear Me – Enrique Iglesias
Our #1 Bittersweet Moment
1992: Germany loses the trophy to Denmark in its first European Championship as a united nation. The Danes weren’t originally supposed to participate, but after Yugoslavia was disqualified, they managed to make it all the way to the top, past a newly reunited Germany.
The anthem: More Than a Game – Towe Jaarnek & Peter Jöback
Our #1 Surprising Moment
2004: Greece wins the European Championship 1-0 against Portugal, and the whole country takes to the streets of Athens, Thessaloníki and Pátra (amongst others) to celebrate.
The anthem: Forca – Nelly Furtado
Our #1 WTF Moment
2006: Zinedine Zidane ends his career as one of the best professional players of all times by headbutting Marco Materazzi in the World Cup Final. He left the field with a red card, and Italy won the game.
The anthem: Hips Don’t Lie – Shakira & Wyclef Jean
Our #1 Beautiful Moment
1986: Argentinian player Diego Maradona dribbles 60 metres across the field, evading the entirety of the English backline, and scores the goal of the century. A week later, he and his team win the World Championship.
The anthem: A Special Kind of Hero – Stephanie Lawrence
Our #1 Triumphant Moment
2014: Germany wins the World Cup 7-1 against Brazil. Meme culture and the internet were having a field day.
The anthem: We Are One (Ole Ola) – Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez & Claudia Leitte
Regardless of who we meet or where we’re going, football always inspires, and Pure lets you experience the spirit even at a distance. This sport is about more than just the ball. It’s about camaraderie and a sense of belonging. And nothing’s ever going to change that. Like Nelson Falcão Rodrigues once said: „In football, the worst blindness is only seeing the ball.“
