Pure Playlist: The Brit Awards Goes to….

Great Britain. We may be a small nation in size, but we certainly have lots to shout about when it comes to our gigantic musical heritage. To commemorate this year’s 40th edition of the Brit Awards, we’ve crafted a playlist that shines a spotlight on the ceremony’s most successful homegrown talent!

Arctic Monkeys

These Sheffield rockers have an impressive success rate, winning seven awards from ten nominations. This includes an equally impressive tally of five awards in the space of three years! Alex Turner and co were last seen in 2014, pulling off a memorable mic drop on stage after crowning their evening with the Best British Album gong.

Annie Lennox

An undisputed British musical icon. The Scottish singer-songwriter dominated the Best British Female category in the 80s and 90s, winning the award four times in six years. Not only recognised for her solo work, the Eurythmics picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Music honour in 1996. She was last seen at the ceremony in 2016, delivering an impassioned monologue in tribute to the late David Bowie.

Coldplay

Officially the Brits’ most successful band. Coldplay have received nine gongs from a total of 27 nominations – dating all the way back to their first awards 2001. The group’s last live outing came in 2017, where they unveiled an energetic collaboration with US DJ duo, The Chainsmokers. This year, they are nominated for Best British Group. Could a fifth win in this category be on the cards?

Adele

Not only responsible for one of the ceremony’s most iconic live performances, with a stunning rendition of Someone Like You back in 2011, Adele is also the awards’ most successful female artist. The London-born singer has performed four times at the event, and in 2016, became the first solo artist to win four awards in one night. Record breaker.

Robbie Williams

The undisputed king of the Brit Awards. In a span of 24 years, the frontman has picked up a whopping 18 awards – winning five gongs alongside Take That and the remaining 18 as a solo performer. His last appearance at the ceremony came in 2017, where Robbie was bestowed the prestigious Brits Icon trophy (officially the awards’ highest accolade), before closing the show with a spectacular medley of hits!
